Agreement represents more than 600 journals from 120 publishers

Project MUSE has entered into an agreement with Portico to preserve its complete collection of scholarly electronic journals, which contains titles from more than 120 not-for-profit scholarly publishers worldwide. Project MUSE and Portico began their partnership in 2012 with the preservation of e-books from the University Press Content Consortium (UPCC) collection.

“Project MUSE now preserves over one million e-book chapters and e-journal articles with Portico,” commented Terry Ehling, associate director of Project MUSE. “This agreement ensures that we are meeting the needs of our participants and fulfilling our aim to deliver essential scholarship for the long term.”

Since 1995 the MUSE journal collections have supported a wide array of research needs at academic, public, special, and school libraries worldwide. MUSE provides complete, full-text versions of scholarly journals from many of the world’s leading university presses and scholarly societies.

“This agreement reinforces our community’s commitment to digital preservation,” said Kate Wittenberg, managing director for Portico. “We are pleased to extend our relationship with Project MUSE to ensure that this content is available for future scholars and researchers.”
